The TEI Region VIII Annual Conference was held on beautiful and very hot Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, at the oceanfront Westin Hilton Head Island Resort, June 26–30. The conference focused on the key issues facing tax professionals and departments today, including new Tax Act challenges, accounting changes, and technology transformations. It also touched on areas critical to in-house tax departments, such as credits, incentives, and—a first of its kind for this conference—a well-attended session on indirect taxes (sales and property). Approximately 100 tax professionals from all over Region VIII attended, with a record-setting seventeen chapters sending members from as far away as Alaska, Minnesota, and Denver and as close as Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Attendees were treated to an all-star lineup that allowed them to receive up to eighteen hours of CPE/CLE as their families basked in the beautiful island sun. It is not too early to think about next year’s conference and to slot it into your calendar for June 3–7, 2020, again at the Westin Resort. If you want to be on the mailing list for advance information and rooms, please email Winifer Tong at [email protected] or Mitch Trager at [email protected].

TEI’s Region VIII conference leadership team—Winifer Tong, Brad Pees, Lynn Jordan, Owen Autry, Robert Howren, and Mitch Trager—thanks region members who attended and their guests as well as the great sponsors for the event. In addition, Region VIII thanks all the wonderful speakers for their presentations and the time they devoted to the conference.
