TEI’s 79th Annual Conference, held at the JW Marriott in San Antonio, Texas, in late October, brought together more than 350 in-house tax professionals, 150 speakers, and thirty-five exhibiting sponsors for an immersive experience designed to address the most pressing issues in today’s rapidly evolving tax landscape.

As in previous years, the Annual Conference featured a comprehensive program with expert-led plenary and concurrent sessions covering a broad range of topics, including US federal and international tax, state and local tax, Canadian tax, tax department leadership, financial reporting, and technology. Attendees gained valuable insights into key issues such as Section 174, transferable energy credits, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Pillar Two framework, and the outlook for Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Other highlights included discussions on the latest trends in integrating technology, navigating C-suite inquiries, and enhancing tax compliance strategies through technological advancements like AI. The Annual Conference also featured an engaging lunch presentation and workshop on leadership and teamwork featuring noted author Jim Bearden.

The conference also offered ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with peers, sponsors, and speakers during breaks, social events, and sponsor-hosted sessions. These interactions fostered a strong sense of community and collaboration among in-house tax professionals. One of the event’s key highlights was the TEI Grand Reception, with a lively “boots and buckles” celebration, where participants enjoyed delicious Southwestern cuisine, line dancing, and live country music. The festive atmosphere provided the perfect setting for both relaxation and networking. Additionally, many sponsors hosted their own activities, offering even more opportunities for attendees to engage in focused discussions, share insights, and build professional relationships.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at TEI’s Midyear Conference in March in Washington, D.C.!
