An annual highlight of the TEI Philadelphia and Harrisburg chapters’ years is awarding scholarships to six outstanding candidates from local universities. Scholarships for the 2014–15 year were recently awarded. Each year, the chapters pool their resources to maximize scholarship awards.
A scholarship candidate must be a junior or senior accounting or business major who is considering a career in the tax field. Candidates also must maintain a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate significant accomplishments, such as being named to an accounting honor society or receiving an academic award.
This year’s recipients are Mark Fala (West Chester University); Nestor Zavala-Bedolla (Villanova University); Alexandra Ferraro (Saint Joseph’s University); Daniel Ruggieri (Widener University); Sarah Craig (LaSalle University); and Lisa McArdle (Drexel University).
The Philadelphia/Harrisburg scholarship program is one of the most generous within TEI. Since 1998, the joint chapter program has awarded nearly $175,000 to ninety-four candidates.
“We are very proud of our long-standing program and the exceptional candidates who receive TEI scholarships,” remarked Al Pisanelli, Philadelphia Chapter president. Timothy D. Billow, president of the Harrisburg Chapter, added, “We are happy to participate in this joint program that reaches so many deserving candidates year after year.”
