We’re just a few months into 2022, but already we’ve had some terrific successes I want to tell you about.
Midyear Conference
First, as you read this, we’re on the verge of holding our second major hybrid event, TEI’s 72nd Midyear Conference, themed Tax Reform Redux—Seizing Opportunities and Mitigating Risks. This year’s conference will return to its familiar home at the Grand Hyatt Washington on March 20–23.
As with our first hybrid event, the 76th Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida,
attendees will have the opportunity to attend either in person or remotely. In either case, we’ll provide them with actionable information on the topics they deal with every day—on cutting-edge international, federal, and state and local tax matters as well as tax technology and financial reporting developments.
Monthly CTO Discussion Group Series
One of my goals this year was to reach and serve leaders of the tax function. I’m pleased to let you know that we have launched a new monthly discussion series for chief tax officers/heads of tax (CTOs), and the feedback we’re getting on this exciting initiative has been extremely positive. During these discussions, we have dealt with timely topics of particular interest to those who lead their organization’s tax function, including:
- hiring trends;
- the status of tax reform legislation on Capitol Hill; and
- approaches to managing risk as workforces become more remote.
Each of these forums has provided participants the opportunity to ask questions and engage with their fellow CTOs. If you lead the tax function in your company, please join the Chief Tax Officers Community on TEI Connect or email Pilar Mata at [email protected] to receive your invitation!
Federal Tax Course – Level 1
Beginning April 25, TEI’s education fund will sponsor the 2022 Federal Tax Course – Level 1 at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on the grounds of Michigan State University in East Lansing. The course, designed for individuals with less than five years’ experience in federal income tax matters, will feature a best-in-class faculty and unparalleled networking opportunities.
Tax Technology Seminar
And don’t forget to attend TEI’s 2022 Tax Technology Seminar in San Francisco on May 2–3. You’ll be able to attend sessions addressing alternatives for data processing, including ETL and data automation tools, and hear about cutting-edge techniques that redefine where and how collaboration happens in digitally inclusive work spaces.
Corporate Tax Department Survey
Last year, many of you completed our Corporate Tax Department survey, which gathered information and metrics about the activities, operations, staffing, and needs of our members’ tax departments. This survey has provided not only information on where we are now but also valuable benchmarking relative to our 2007 and 2012 editions of the survey. We are excited to release this survey in the TEI store and will share some of the highlights during our Midyear Conference.
Membership Survey Results
Thanks to those who have completed our membership survey. This input is invaluable in helping us determine goals for the Institute going forward and in providing vital feedback on whether we’re meeting your needs. We hope to share results from this important survey in April.
As 2022 unfolds, I look forward to continuing to let you know how we’re doing not only in this space but also when interacting with you, either in person or remotely.
Best regards,
Mitchell Trager
TEI International President
