TEI Regions VI and VII held the annual TEI/IRS Liaison Meeting on May 16, 2019. ExxonMobil graciously hosted the event in Spring, Texas, at its state-of-the-art 385-acre campus. Nineteen IRS personnel and thirty-four TEI members attended the event. IRS panelists included Gloria Sullivan, IRS director, Western Compliance Practice Area; John Hinman, IRS director, field operations, in the Transfer Pricing Practice; Scott Shieldes, deputy area counsel (Area 4) for the Large Business & International Division (LB&I) of the Office of Chief Counsel; Kathy Kruchten, senior manager, Program Management Office, Compliance Integration, LB&I; Richard (Rick) Arney, territory manager of Territory 7, Cross Border Activity, LB&I; Dorothy Choice, Territory 1 manager, Western–South Central Compliance practice area, LB&I; Evelyn Johnson, Territory 2 manager, Western–South Central Compliance practice area, LB&I; Ingrid Mathis, territory manager in the Central Compliance practice area, LB&I; Arup Bose, appeals team manager, Examination Appeals in Houston; and Kathleen A. Lampignano, appeals team case leader in Houston. Also in attendance were Katrina Welch, incoming TEI international president, and Patrick Evans, TEI chief tax counsel.
Sessions included the current and future state of LB&I, 2019 priorities for the IRS including organizational changes and shutdown implications, counsel updates, CAP and R&D updates, information regarding the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, an appeals update, and an update regarding campaigns and their interaction with the Coordinated Industry Case (CIC) program (newly relabeled the Large Corporate Compliance [LCC] program, per the May 16, 2019, IRS press release). Participants received six hours of CPE and enjoyed the ability to network between sessions. This event will be held in Chicago next year—stay tuned!
