Donald “Don” W. Clark, former senior director of taxation at Transamerica Corporation and longtime TEI member, died on May 4, 2017. He passed away peacefully in his home at age 82.
Don was born on March 5, 1935, in Thermopolis, Wyoming, and grew up in Wyoming and Montana. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming.
Upon graduation, Don went to work for Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte LLP) in San Francisco. Subsequently, he worked at the Internal Revenue Service, United Artists Theatre Circuit, and Webb & Webb Certified Public Accountants, all in San Francisco. During this time, Don earned his CPA certificate and a master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. In 1972 Don joined Transamerica Corporation’s tax department, spending the next twenty-five years there until his retirement in 1997.
Don was a past president of TEI’s San Francisco Chapter, a past Institute director, and the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the San Francisco Chapter. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of San Francisco.
He was a consummate San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. After retirement he continued his education through the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning on the University of San Francisco campus. He also pursued his interest in gardening.
Don is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Charlotte, and his son, Thomas (Father Bede, Order of St. Benedict).
